Week 6 Term 2

Hi Parents, I hope your weekend has been very restful and warm by the fire. This weekend I have been away celebrating my mum's 70th with my dad, sister, brother and their families. It is such a special time having everyone together. The torrential rain has not stopped all of the cousins from making the most of being together. Luckily we have a dryer!!! The weekend of celebrating my mum does not end on Sunday, so I will not be at school on Monday. Back Tuesday! Fine Motor Activities Following the OT screening we have been strengthening our hands with various 'fine motor' activities. We have been cutting, tweezing, pegging and threading. We need to strengthen the little muscles in our hands to make it easier for when we are trying to write. We will be doing a lot more writing for the rest of the year. If you can set up some fine motor activities at home, your child will benefit from the extra practise. Other activities that you can do are:  opening lids of containers squeezin

Week 5 Term 2

Hi Parents, What a busy couple of weeks we have had!  The children have been working very hard and have been 'blowing our socks off' with their amazing reading and writing!  Their mathematics understandings are 'taking off' and in science we have been exploring the concept of day and night.  Last week we were lucky enough to welcome Mrs Amanda Taylor to our Pre primary staff.  She is a very experienced Special Needs Education Assistant and will share her time between the two classrooms.    Home readers Please refer to last weeks blog for information regarding home readers.  Plant Drop WA In class we have been discussing the fact that it feels good to be kind and to do kind things for others.  To allow the children to experience the joy of 'secret' giving we would like to copy the incentive of Plant Drop WA (they have a Facebook page).  Whilst in Fremantle earlier this year Mrs Birch saw a small pot plant sitting on a table at he markets, all alone.  Being a pla

Week 4 Term 2

Hi Parents, I hope all of our mum's had a wonderful mothers day last Sunday and loved your 'made with love' gifts from your PP child. They all worked really hard to create something special for you. I had an amazing day with my two kiddos as well as my mum (apart from coming down with a cold). Home Readers We are sending out home readers a little earlier than usual as the children are very keen to show off their reading skills. Our exchange days will be Monday and Wednesday (and Friday if your child is keen to read on the weekend). Please return your child's reading folder on these mornings.  The book is kept for 2 nights and should be read on both nights. By reading the book twice it gives your child a feeling of reading success. The first nights read is usually when the hard word of decoding happens. On the second night your child will be familiar with the words and should decode easier and can also have an opportunity to practise fluency. So that we know your child
