Week 9 Term 1

Dear Parents, Week 8 Award Winner This week our PPL winner was Jacques Duque. Well done Jacques, well deserved!!! English This week we are learning about the letters 'i' and 'f'. Each letter has a 'name' and a 'sound'.  So far we have learnt the name and sound of the letters 's', 't', 'a', 'm', 'p'. Now that we know these letters we have been busy reading and writing words by putting some of these sounds together (zipping up the sounds). eg: m - a - t = mat,  t - a - p = tap. We have also learnt how to write these letters correctly. It is important that we always write them using the correct formation. Maths During math lessons we have looked at how we can use our fingers to create numbers. eg: 5 fingers and 1 finger = 6, 3 fingers and 3 fingers = 6  and 4 fingers and 2 fingers = 6. We also noticed that if we hold up 3 fingers there are still 2 fingers down on that hand so....3 fingers and 2 fingers = 5. Interesti

Week 7 Term 1

Dear Parents, World Down Syndrome Day On Monday the 21 st  of March, we will be hosting a crazy sock day at school to raise awareness and  some money for the Down Syndrome WA organisation. The students have created a design on a pair of paper socks. On Monday the students will use this design to decorate a real pair of socks. If you haven't already, could you please send an old light coloured pair of socks to school with your child on Monday 21st March? (You don't need to purchase a new one). Can you please make sure that the socks have the students name on the inside?  It will be amazing to see all those sock designs on the day and would be a great way to reiterate the true meaning of the day about celebrating people's uniqueness. Please also bring a gold coin donation for Down Syndrome WA on 21st March. House photos If you haven't already, could you p lease send in a photograph of your home.   Street View  to support our learning in this area. As well as a  family pho

Week 6 Term 1

Hi Parents, I hope you all enjoyed your long weekends. I think a long bread is just what we all needed. Leave Just so you are aware I have taken some leave days this week and next so I won't be in class this Friday (tomorrow) or next Monday and Tuesday. English This week we have learnt the letter 't'. We thought of lots of words that begin with the 't' sound like: tiger, turtle, tickle, toes.... We have discovered that no one in our class has a name that begins with 't' or 's'. HASS We have been looking at maps and our special place. Please send in a photograph of your home.   Street View  to support our learning in this area. We have already had a quick look at some of the children's homes using Google Earth on the big screen.  The children were fascinated by this! I would also love a family photo sent in ASAP. Please send as an attachment to  kristie.leahy@cewa.edu.au Science Science has been our last key subject to 'kick off' for the

Week 5 Term 1

Week 5, Half Way!!! Wow, I can't believe we are already half way through the term!! The year is moving very quickly.  Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday Yesterday was Shrove Tuesday.   Shrove Tuesday   is a term used   for the day before   Ash Wednesday . Ash Wednesday is the first day of the   Christian   season of prayer and   fasting   called   Lent . On Shrove Tuesday people traditionally cook and eat  pancakes . The reason for this was to use up foods such as fat, eggs and milk before Lent. It is also called  Pancake Tuesday  or  Pancake Day .  We enjoyed making and eating pancakes. Today is Ash Wednesday. The children will be receiving the ashes.  Ash Wednesday is the first day in the season of Lent. Lent can be observed by all Christians, and it is a beautiful way to remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us and prepare us for the Easter season. During Lent, we remember the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert being tempted by the devil. We do extra prayers, fasting, and almsgiving
