Week 4 Term 4

 Dear Parents,

Wellbeing Week

This week has been our school wellbeing week. Each day there has been a focus on a different kind of activity that can help to promote positive wellbeing for everyone at OLC.  Some activities that have taken place so far are yoga, guided meditations, mindfulness tapping, mindfulness colouring, square breathing and expressing gratitude.

  • Tomorrow, students are asked to wear their favourite T-Shirt that makes them feel good - it can be a band, a colour or one with a positive message on it...up to them! Please still  wear their regular sports bottoms please.
Character Strength.

Our Character Strength that we are focusing on this week is: Love of Learning.

Science

The children are really enjoying our topic of Living Things.  Our silk worm moths have begun laying more eggs!!!

Last week we did an experiment to see if cut flowers are still living.  Our question was Do they still drink water?  To do this we put cut flowers in water containing dye. We kept one flower in plain water as a control. The dye being a variable. The children have loved watching the flowers gradually change colour.

English

As part of our Talk4Writing programme the children have been looking closely at sentences.  They have identified and used adjectives and nouns.  They have also written questions.

Tricky Words

You will notice that the children have brought home some highlighted tricky words to focus on.  They may have mastered them when practising at home but sometimes they don't remember them when writing in the classroom. It is a good idea to practise writing all of the words they have learnt as often as possible as they are easily forgotten. They can be practised by calling them out randomly or even writing them in a sentence.

Maths

Last week we looked at the days of the week.  We needed to be able to order the days of the week and tell what day it was yesterday and what day it will be tomorrow.

This week we will begin to look at the concept of sharing.

Have a wonderful week everyone,

Kristie Leahy and the PPL Team

Week 2 Term 3

Dear Parents, Well here we go! Term Four.   I hope that you have all had happy and restful holidays.  My kids and I went to Shark Bay for the first week with my mum and dad. It was great to get out of Dunsborough and was a fun road trip. Not sure my Dad will choose to sit in the back with the kids ever again though!!! We welcome Fraya and her family to PPB this term. There will be a strong emphasis on reading and writing this term in order to prepare your children for the rigour of Year One.  Some ways that you can support your child with their learning are: Listen to your child read EVERY night. Complete the homework reading sheets that are sent home each week.  Practise 'Tricky Words'.  Read them. Write them.  If your child is reversing letters and numerals then model the correct formation for them. Use the printing chart we sent home earlier this year.   Follow up on recommendations from any speech or OT reports. Don't forget to share any further reports you get with me

Welcome to PPT 2024

Dear Parents,  On behalf of the Pre Primary Turner teaching team I would like to extend a warm welcome to the PPT Teal students and families of 2024! The beginning of a new year is always exciting, not only for the students but for the teachers too.  Pre Primary, also known as the Foundation Year, is a very important year in your child's educational journey.   This year they will learn the essential early skills of reading and writing. They will also be introduced to and learn to recognise and understand our base ten counting system. Learning will also include music, dance, HASS, Technology, Science, Kimochis and our Keeping Safe programme. Our first term focuses on learning routines, expected behaviours and getting used to our learning and play spaces. As with last year, both PP classes are sharing a learning space while our new classrooms are being created and will be working closely throughout the year.   It can be a little noisy with 2 classes in the one space so plea
