Week 5 Term 1

Dear Parents and Care givers,

Thanks for a great week. I hope you all have some lovely family time planned for your long weekend.

A few reminders....

Long weekend

Just a reminder that this Monday is a pupil free day for the long weekend.

Early Years Conference

I will be away in Perth on Thursday of next week presenting at the Early Years Conference.

Mindful Wednesdays and Fridays

Starting next week, Wednesday and Friday mornings will be dedicated mindful mornings. This means the learning space at the back of the classroom will be unavailable for play during this time. There will be QUIET activities for you and your child to choose from. Please respect the quiet space we have created to ensure a positive and calm learning environment for the rest of the day.

Social skills and Manners

Learning how to greet people is an important social skill for children. We would appreciate it if you could assist your child to respectfully greet their teachers when they arrive at school by making eye contact and saying good morning using the persons name.

Gathering time: activity time/parent conversations

Our morning gathering time is an opportunity for you and your child to spend some one-on-one time together. We would appreciate if you could firstly assist your child in CORRECTLY writing their name and then spend time with your child playing a game or completing an activity. You don't have to wait for the pack up song to come on or for the bell. If your child is settled it is the perfect time to leave. As you would be aware the mornings are very noisy in our shared PP space so we would appreciate that you save your adult conversations for when you have left the room.  Thanks

Gathering time: name writing

It is important that your child is practising their names using the correct letter formation. If you come into the classroom please sit with your child and assist them to write their name correctly using the correct letter formation and a capital letter for the first letter only. The name writing sheets include arrows to help with correct formation. It takes a lot of practising the correct formation to undo the habits they have formed already. Feel free to practise numerous times while you have the opportunity. Thank you for your support.

Library bags

On Tuesdays please have your child place their library bag (with the book still inside) into their drawer.

On Entry testing

PPA and PPT have started the mandated On Entry testing this week. We will share the results with you at the parent meetings at the end of this term.

The kids have made amazing progress so far. They are getting into the swing of the PP learning environment and have settled into the new routines. Remember to allow your child to work on their independence when organising themselves for school in the mornings - at home and at school.

Thanks

Kristie and the PPT team

Week 2 Term 3

Dear Parents, Well here we go! Term Four.   I hope that you have all had happy and restful holidays.  My kids and I went to Shark Bay for the first week with my mum and dad. It was great to get out of Dunsborough and was a fun road trip. Not sure my Dad will choose to sit in the back with the kids ever again though!!! We welcome Fraya and her family to PPB this term. There will be a strong emphasis on reading and writing this term in order to prepare your children for the rigour of Year One.  Some ways that you can support your child with their learning are: Listen to your child read EVERY night. Complete the homework reading sheets that are sent home each week.  Practise 'Tricky Words'.  Read them. Write them.  If your child is reversing letters and numerals then model the correct formation for them. Use the printing chart we sent home earlier this year.   Follow up on recommendations from any speech or OT reports. Don't forget to share any further reports you get with me

Week 3 Term 3 Mission Markets

Hi Everyone, The learning in Pre Primary is really picking up pace now so remember... if you have any questions please make sure you check in with me.  English. Letter Sound Knowledge. Our focus letters for Week 3 and 4 are...      ss   ck  ll w ff.    When 2 letters join to make 1 sound it is called a digraph. The students have been taught this terminology. 'ss', 'ck', 'll' and 'ff' are all digraphs (2 letters making 1 sound). The children will be asked to read Consonant Vowel Consant (CVC)  words that use these letters and ones that they have already learned like... eg.     well   kick   fuss   sack   moss   huff    We are beginning to read sentences that use taught tricky words and regular reading words that use the sounds we have covered. eg. Jess fell off the rock. Jack will miss the bus.  Our focus Tricky Words will be...  his, her, them, there, have, of, here, with Writing: Not only are we learning to write words by saying the sounds we can hea

Week 7 Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers, I hope you had a lovely extra long weekend. I've managed to catch up with family and had a bit of forced down time. The weather has kept us pretty quiet. Please read on so you know what we are currently up to..... Literacy Last week we began our writing in gathering time. As I have previously mentioned, each student is allocated 2 mornings a week where they will experiment with writing. We encourage any writing attempt and will be available to help. We would like to see the students begin to use their letter/sound knowledge in their writing attempts along with their new 'tricky word' knowledge. It has been so exciting to see some of the students discovering some tricky words in the books they are looking at. If they are doing this at home, encourage them to write each tricky word they find and to read them back to you as often as possible. If your child can automatically recognise tricky words, this will make their reading experience a lot easier an
